Q2. Can I use “Dr.” before my name after receiving an Honorary Doctorate?
The Honorary Doctorate is honorary in nature.
Recipients are advised to use the title with clarity and responsibility.
✅ Recommended & ethical usage:
- Dr. ABC (Honorary)
- ABC, Hon. PhD
- ABC, Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa)
❌ Not recommended:
- Using “Dr.” in a way that implies medical, clinical, or professional qualification
- Using the title for professional practice, prescriptions, or regulated services
Q3. How should “Hon.” be written correctly?
The correct formats are:
- Hon. PhD
- Hon. D.Sc.
- Hon. D.Litt.
- Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa)
“Hon.” stands for Honorary and must always be mentioned where appropriate.
Q4. Does this award allow me to practice medicine or any profession?
No.
The Honorary Doctorate does not authorize the holder to practice medicine, prescribe drugs, perform surgery, or engage in any profession regulated by law.

No.
This is an honorary recognition conferred by a private educational institution.
